“RFK, Jr., Is Spreading a Dangerous, Ignorant Myth About Autism”

“We don’t need a registry, and we don't need a ‘cure.’ We need a revolution in how we understand autism — not as something to be feared but as a natural part of human diversity. Our job isn’t to eliminate autism. It’s to eliminate barriers and provide support so that all autistic people can live joyful, self-directed lives.”

  1. Again, why is ADDitude publishing such an awful, politically biased, article? The data has been there long before RFK jr was ever in charge of anything. A 2011 article in Psychology today said, “Fifty-two divorced parents who have a child with autism responded to a survey regarding their perceptions of divorce and autism. While 78% of respondents said they divorced after their child was diagnosed, and overwhelmingly 76% of the respondents said that autism was not the primary cause of their divorce. Although the majority of respondents did not consider autism a main cause of divorce, 50% did consider autism to be a contributing factor for the divorce.” That’s just one article and it sounds like families are being destroyed. How much more difficult is it to be a single parent of a child or children with Autism? Of course “child with Autism does not equal divorce”, there are many contributing factors. We should not demonize someone who is bringing national attention to the disorder and stating they want to help find a cure. The author of this article is pushing a political agenda and not capitalizing on the fact that our government is finally giving Autism more attention than any billboard ever has.

  2. Dear American friends, it seems the lightbulb moment is still pending. It feels like the evening of January 31st, 1933 – you can already smell the smoke on the horizon.

  3. No disrespect but this is idiotic! Never in my life have I ever read something so offensive to children and adults with ASD or their families. You want to these amazing people as if they are broken toys or better yet, someone to put on a “watch list”. I am not only the parent of an Autistic child but I am a Special Education Teacher that will tell you right now, RFK Jr., you are pathetic. Do us all a favor, study and research before making such ridiculous decisions!
