More than a few children with ADHD have difficulty understanding oral instructions and information. They hear the words and repeat them back, but they can’t retain and interpret the message encoded in the words. For many of these children, a language-processing disorder may be impairing their ability to attach meaning to verbal input and to formulate an appropriate response.

Children with language deficits may take a long time to respond to a question, feel lost when listening to stories with lots of events and characters, and use generic language instead of specific words (saying “the thing” instead of “the notebook”). Here, Dr. Richard will explain common language-processing challenges and provide suggestions for developing stronger skills and for facilitating improved processing at home and in school.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How to differentiate language-processing deficits from auditory processing challenges and ADHD symptoms
  • Common signs of language-processing deficits in children
  • How language-processing challenges affect a child’s social skills
  • How to pursue a thorough, accurate diagnosis
  • How to compensate for language-processing problems
  • Tips and strategies for addressing language-processing challenges at home and in school
