“Move Forward: How Exercise Optimizes the ADHD Brain” [Video Replay & Podcast #286]

Episode Description

Solid evidence shows that exercise exerts powerful influence over the structure, function, and development of the brain in the short- and long-term. What’s more, mental health researchers have recently begun to examine whether exercise can be a tool for individuals to manage their ADHD. Indeed, exercise is associated with increased levels of dopamine and norepinephrine — two brain chemicals also stimulated by ADHD medications to induce improved focus, motivation, and mood.

More research is needed to fully understand the exercise-ADHD connection, but there are already many reasons why children and adults with ADHD should consider exercise as a supplement to therapy and medication. I will present the latest research to shed light on the benefits of exercise for individuals with ADHD, the unique challenges of engaging in exercise when you have ADHD, and strategies for how to overcome them.

In this webinar, you will learn from Patrick LaCount, Ph.D., about:

  • The benefits of exercise on mental and physical health
  • The neuropsychological factors that may make exercise particularly beneficial for people  with ADHD
  • The latest research on the benefits of physical exercise for children and adults with ADHD
  • Strategies to help you overcome procrastination and lack of motivation regarding exercise

  1. HORRIBLE WEBINAR!! This should not be allowed to be on a reputable ADHD/ADD website. The speaker did not give any valuable information, he spoke over the patient using medical terminology, he had no answers to any of the questions, and he didn’t know for sure how to calculate max heart rate or moderate heart rate. He stated it was 120-age, but that is not true bc it is actually 220-age. The normal population would not know that and therefore they are being told lies. Luckily I am a physical therapist and I know how to calculate max/mod heartrate and I understand the medical lingo. Something needs to be done, such as removing this webinar bc many patients with ADHD, including myself, come to this website looking for answers to help straighten out their crazy/confusing ADHD/ADD lives and try to make our lives a little easier with helpful evidence based information from reputable medical professionals. This was the most confusing and worst webinar I have ever watched/listened to from additudemag.com. I am very disappointed.
