Episode Description

Individuals with ADHD are enrolling in two- and four-year colleges and universities in increasing numbers. In fact, nearly one in 11 college students has ADHD. Regardless of good outcomes attained in high school, college students with ADHD especially benefit from interventions, services, and accommodations in higher education.

Many adolescents face challenges transitioning from high school to college, but the abrupt loss of parental support and increased demands for self-management especially impact young adults with ADHD. Preparing students with ADHD for college should start well before they step on campus and it should focus on improving executive functioning skills (e.g., organization, time management, planning).

Expert Kevin Antschel will review the latest research on preparing high school students for college and managing ADHD once in college to increase the odds of successful academic and social outcomes.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How parents can help their high school students develop skills to ease the college transition
  • Specific services, accommodations, and interventions that benefit college students with ADHD
  • How to reduce stimulant diversion and engagement in risky behaviors (substance use)
  • How to mitigate the negative impact of comorbid depression in college
  • Strategies for accessing services and accommodations on college campuses

“As both a parent and professional that deals with ADHD, this was an excellent webinar: probably one of the most informative and helpful I’ve attended. Thank you very much for using evidence-based research and combining it with the human side of ADHD and college. Excellent!”

“I’m a parent of a 17-year-old son with ADHD and an academic advisor at a college in the TRIO Student Support Services program who serves students with disabilities, and I thought this presenter was GREAT!  Everything was in alignment with college and I’m grateful for his resources.”

“Dr. Antshel was excellent: thorough and very knowledgeable.  I appreciated his support of coaching for ADHD, since that’s what I do!  I appreciated his recommendations about viewing the various treatments as a package, because each mode has different benefits, or builds different skills. Well done ADDitude and Dr. Antshel!”
