Joel Nigg, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, scientist, and a professor in the departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at Oregon Health & Science University. He directs the OHSU ADHD Research program and is also director of the division of psychology. He is the author of a new book for parents on ADHD, environment, and lifestyle entitled, Getting Ahead of ADHD: What Next-Generation Science Says About Treatments That Work — and How You Can Make Them Work for Your Child. Dr. Nigg has published some 200 scientific papers related to the neuropsychological , cognitive, and temperamental correlates of child ADHD, to ADHD genetics, and in particular for this talk, to gene and environmental effects in ADHD.     My teenage daughter has trouble sleeping probably because of her ADHD as well as the stimulant medication she takes. What do you recommend In order to make it easier for her to fall asleep? What are your thoughts on Melatonin?

    1. If you listen to the webinar replay you will hear Dr. Nigg mention some behavioral sleep programs and he suggests that timing and dosage of stimulant medications might be adjusted. During the Q & A portion of the webinar he discusses Melatonin as well. Also, Chapter 4 of his book, Getting Ahead of ADHD – What Next Generation Science Says about Treatments That Work-and How You Can Make Them Work for Your Child covers the same subjects.
