Storing and Using the Daytrana Patch

“My son’s doctor prescribed the new stimulant patch, Daytrana. I find it difficult to peel off the protective covering, and I’ve ruined and had to throw away a few patches. Any suggestions?”

I’ve heard the same thing from several of my patients, but one of them discovered this trick: Store the Daytrana patches in the refrigerator. They seem to peel much more easily when they’re cold. So far, all the patients I’ve shared this tip with say that it works well.

FDA is warning that permanent loss of skin color may occur with use of the Daytrana patch (methylphenidate transdermal system) for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). FDA added a new warning to the drug label to describe this skin condition, which is known as chemical leukoderma. See the FDA Drug Safety Communication for more information.
