Wonderful webinar. Although I agree with absolutely everything that’s posted about this, I was wondering: what do we do when it’s already too late? When you’ve only heard negative things as a child and grew up to be an adult who feels inadequate on a daily basis and suffers from social anxiety and an extremely low self esteem. How can I start reframing the thought that I’m not good enough if I spent the first 20 years of my life feeling as if there’s something wrong with me, I have no idea how it feels to believe there isn’t. If I do tell myself there’s nothing wrong with me I keep feeling:
‘Yes but that’s not true. You were bullied as a kid.. they wouldn’t do that if there wasn’t something wrong with you. And look at you now? You’re 27, never had a boyfriend or kept anyone interested for more than 2 dates. Are you sure there’s nothing wrong with you? You’re 3 years away from 30, you’re not getting any younger.. you’re going to die old and alone’
‘Ok yes there’s something wrong with me…’
This is such a great article about exactly what you describe: https://www.additudemag.com/slideshows/adhd-and-shame/
Yes I’ve read that one. But it just says “accept yourself”. How? How do you accept yourself if nobody else does? It would be useful if they would give a bit more in depth information and a step by step programme on where to start accepting yourself. I have never accepted myself before. Where does one start?
