  1. This speaker is impressive with the knowledge and depth of experience that she has on this topic. But I have one question: Why should any aspiring recruit even mention that he/she has ADHD or any kind of mental illness? Just a few years ago the military adopted the “Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell” policy toward gay recruits and service members, so what would that not apply here too?

I spent a 40+ year career in the world of private corporations and any confession about ADD or ADHD would send the HR manager to the internet and he/she would find that ADHD victims have an unsettling penchant for saying stupid things at inopportune moments. No company will want to hire anyone who might blurt out something outrageous in a customer facing meeting, an unsolicited comment that might kill a sale. No law requires you to divulge such deeply personal information so why would you? Even gang members in handcuffs don’t spill their guts unless they are totally stupid. You have the same Miranda rights as any perp plus you have HIPAA.
