What Does Twice Exceptional Mean? Identifying and Nurturing Gifted Children with ADHD

The intellectual potential of twice exceptional youth is great but sometimes difficult to recognize and cultivate due to a co-existing condition like ADHD, a learning disability, sensory issues, or other conditions that complicate learning — and teaching.

  1. As a parent of a 2e child, I was extremely disappointed in the condescension toward parents and the assumptions made about the child. It sounded as if the author was just frustrated and complaining instead of giving any advice or solutions. Parents who are here reading these article are trying our hardest to navigate these difficult situations and learn better techniques to do so. I find it sad that the publisher or editor allows these experts to complain about how much we as parents are at fault for making all the wrong choices and then not give us any advice on how to make a better choice. I wish ADDitude would be more selective and only post articles that offer hope and help. We need support and solutions not backlashing at parents and children just because we aren’t psychologists or have mental health issues.
