Make a List, Check It Twice — Then Do Only the Really Important Stuff

Don’t waste your time and energy trying to make your life perfect.

  1. I can totally understand and empathize with AnnHW. I try very hard to keep my living room and kitchen reasonably habitable but my bedroom and the spare room are a total wreck add is my back porch. I can spend hours culling out things I don’t need and donate them…35 huge bags last year, but somehow the clutter just takes over again. Slowly, very slowly I am gaining control over my bedroom, but with ADHD,OCD,BIPOLAR, and PTSD there are days when I just look at it and go uh-uh not today.

  2. This is the worst for me, especially in the summer. My husband and I have a fairly large place that includes a barn and one horse at home, and another in training nearby. The yard always needs mowing, and the pastures are overgrown right now. I managed to sweep part of the barn, came back to the house and (once again) looked at my messy basement. Thank goodness we have a wonderful person who cleans the main living area every two weeks. Otherwise, I’d be adding that to the list. The windows all need washing, and I try to sweep out the garage every so often.

My husband works at home, and he’s on the phone most of the time. I know his job is stressful, so on the weekends when we should be getting things done, we often end up going somewhere, just to get away from everything. I LOVE our home, but it’s impossible to keep up with it all. I remember visiting someone’s place and everything (I mean EVERYTHING) was so neat and tidy. You could have eaten off the garage floor!! How do people do that? I’d be cleaning 24/7, and I wouldn’t do that even if I could.
