I’m new to this site and I’m a 60 yr old woman who has had ADHD all my life but became aware of it in my 30’s when I noticed by second born having some of the same behavioral issues, especially in school.
I decided to get him under a doctors care because of an incident one day when I just arrived home from work. My son, 6 yrs old, was huddled in my closet and when I asked him what was wrong, he said “I’m a failure and nobody likes me”.
In those few words all my emotions from childhood and adolescence came rushing back and I cried with him in the closet and told him I was challenged with the same feelings when I was his age. I told him I was so glad he was able to tell me, because I wasn’t able to express these feelings to my parents.
As a girl, I was an anomaly and none of my teachers knew what to do with me other than placing me on a corner facing away from the class. There were girls who weren’t allowed to have pay dates with me because I was BAD.
Girls with poor self-esteem tend to be more sexually active. Being more compliant just to be liked. So yeah I’m not surprised about the pregnancy rate being higher.
I don’t think it’s about impulsiveness. I do not believe that the ADD BEHAVIORS directly lead to promiscuity and the relying pregnancies but the baggage that goes along with the syndrome – feeling less worthy.
