As jchucker1 stated here in the comments, I wish my parents (one a teacher), my teachers and even my friends had known about AdHD Inattentive when I was a girl in the 1970s and 1980s. Although I grieve for that little girl and young adult who’s schooling and daily life was so difficult, I am grateful that we know about it now. My sons lives are completely different and we all support each other with our “quirks”. My self esteem will never be what it should but at least girls are diagnosed these days – although I’m sure not enough. Anyone who thinks AdHD isn’t real should live with it for 1 day. It’s not an excuse. It’s an explanation. This is who many of us are. Accept us and let us learn, think and live as we only know how.
If only I had grown up with the sensitivity, awareness, and understanding that these teachers’ comments reflect! If I had, I wouldn’t at age 63, still be picking up the pieces of my life. Sigh! Onward!
