"What I Wish I’d Known About Private School Before We Made the Choice"

Academically, private school was the best choice for our daughter. She is a different learner who benefits enormously from small classes and individual attention. Socially, however, the departure from public school has been quite another story.

  1. Although I can relate, things improved for us. I also know that times have changed a lot from kids meeting outside to play ball and hang with friends mainly due to technology. Our 15 year old son is thriving in a private school now after years of bullying, being shamed by teachers etc. The school is 30 min away and fortunately there is mandatory sports after school which helps with socializing. The other positives are the individualized learning, smaller classes, respect, zero tolerance bullying, less partying. The fact that we are 30 min away, makes it harder for “playdates” which can actually be a benefit as it limits going to lots of parties etc. Yes, it can be a pain driving more, but luckily for us the positive out way the inconvenience. He has a couple of good friends that he’s made through his passion of music that actually live in other states. Most of their time together is online/FaceTime etc. Living far away does really makes it difficult for playdates though but he has so much in common with these kids! : ) I hope you find a good balance soon!

  2. This was the article I needed. We have gone to private & now go to public school and Opt into a non-neighborhood school, but weigh this option daily. We struggle with this same social dynamic & how to help her connect. THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
