Great advice. I say take pictures of everything you have attachment to, not just visual art. When my mom died I paid way too much for storage for too long because I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of her stuff. When I couldn’t afford it, I finally emptied it (some keep, mostly donated, recycled, or thrown away). I took photos of everything and made a google photos folder to store them online. I can look at these when feeling nostalgic without crowding out my life now. It’s made such a difference. With kid stuff, you could even get them to help you and to label the photos, and they can be shared with family members if really meaningful.
In my mind “bric-a-brac from my late mother” refers to bric-a-brac that my mother owned and I “inherited”. If that’s the question, the answer is quite callous (though unintentionally.)
