MY son, aged 9, was diagnosed with ADHD and has been having occupational therapy sessions for the last year (barring an enforced break for CV-19 lockdown). Although there is some improvement, his school referred us to the pediatric department of a major local hospital as he is falling behind with his studies. A preliminary meeting and, while they are yet to propose a treatment plan, they thought we should try medication in the meantime and prescribed Risperdal. I have since done some research online and have serious doubts about using it. She did warn of possible side effects but they appear more serious than I expected, but my main misgivings are about the suitability of the drug in our case. By the way, we live in Thailand so the regulations and availability of medication differs from the US and Europe.
I would be really grateful for advice or comments from anyone in the ADD community as I don’t feel informed enough to go back and question the doctors decision at this point.
What is not legit, is obtaining Adderall illegally. Your efforts may be sincere, never the less, stimulants are highly regulated and therefore highly suspect to scrutiny. Additude is the only source I’ve discovered where stimulants are discussed but only for it’s intended, therapeutic, and legal use. With stigma, risk of abuse, and suspicious doctors, it is easy for a person with ADD to find themselves unable to get the medication they need. There are plenty of places on the internet to discuss buying or selling drugs. Discretion is advised; for that activity will get you a lengthy time in jail.
There is something extremely important to keep in mind when they say it is permissible to dissolve the med in applesauce or yogurt. It is better to pour it in a teaspoon or tablespoon of the preferred choice so that the delivery can be assured. When it is dumped into a bowl or container of yogurt or applesauce, you are assuming that the entire quantity is being eaten and that none of the active ingredient has accumulated on the sides of the container.
