5 Comments: 5 Things Kids with ADHD Should NOT Eat

  1. Ah. It’s sad to see that even after all this time, corrections have not been made to this article. Most of this is misinformation, and it will mislead parents who want to help their kids.

The best way to figure out food sensitivities is to work with a healthcare provider you trust. Very few people are sensitive to food dyes. What works for one person will not work for all people. And sugar does not increase hyperactivity.

Only trust articles that CITE ACADEMIC LITERATURE TO BACK THEM UP.

  2. The Feingold diet is not effective and sugar doesn’t cause hyperactivity. These are myths. https://www.eatright.org/food/nutrition/dietary-guidelines-and-myplate/sugar-does-it-really-cause-hyperactivity / https://www.webmd.com/g00/parenting/features/busting-sugar-hyperactivity-myth?i10c.ua=4&i10c.encReferrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8%3d&i10c.dv=24 / http://www.yalescientific.org/2010/09/mythbusters-does-sugar-really-make-children-hyper/

Artificial food dyes don’t affect people with ADHD more than other people, AFCs are rarely responsible alone for changes in behavior, the changes in behavior are very small, and the results of studies are very mixed. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3441937/

This is some nasty, unscientific writing that scaremongers more than provides facts. Disappointing.

  3. Agree witty comment above m. Annetto, known in Australia as 160b or even “no artificial colours or flavours” is absolutely not ok for MANY kids who have ADHD and food sensitivities. And speaking of food sensitivities And naturally occurring flavours as per Feingold type diet, amines and glutamine can be equally as triggering as salicates but each person needs to find out what it is for them personally through an elimination diet.

  4. Great article, I agree mostly! We did this but I have to say, in our case, annatto and caramel color are most definitely NOT safe!! We get intense behaviours from them.
