The Nightmare of “Back to Baseline” on ADHD and ODD Medications

The mad, mad world of medicating — and un-medicating — a child diagnosed with ADHD and ODD.

  1. My son was unable to tolerate stimulants or guanfacine so he takes Strattera. I tried every type of supplement and therapy first but after being suspended from school within the first two weeks of first grade I knew he needed more. He is now doing better in school but as you said, he takes out all his anger and frustrations on us. Even while on medication his behavior is a constant challenge. I have been called mean and a bully, hit, scratched, bitten, kicked, yelled at and today poked with a fork. It was so helpful to read your post as a reminder that we are not alone in this battle with ADHD and ODD. And I like that you said you are proud to have been chosen to be his mom. That is a great way to look at it. Thank you so much for sharing your story!

  2. I tell my son God chose me to be his mom. I grateful for what you shared. My son has adhd, sensory, anxiety and possibly on the spectrum. He has done OT for two years. Stimulant medication for 1 year. He has now started speech therapy for pragmatic. When he is overstimulated or angry he is aggressive. I have been, hit, kicked, and spit on. It can be overwhelming and exhausting. It is especially hard when others judge, instead of having compassion. When we pray at night I tell him I thank God for him my greatest gift. I pray for comfort and joy for your family. Thank you
