  1. As a bulimic female with ADHD I read this post looking for insight, understanding and attainable solutions — things I have never dared to look for before. And while I found some of that I couldn’t ignore the author’s errors / unintentional insensitivity. I am encouraged that this information exists but feel compelled to offer these suggestions for future content. I am not sure who will see this (I truly hope the author or content creator does and no this is not an angry yelp review, I am genuinely offering perspective).

If your audience is someone like me (or even someone concerned) using weigh in the subhead isn’t clever and insensitive.

Disordered eating is different from having an eating disorder.

Using verbiage like “poor self-control” and “least successful” paints and even reinforces those who experience the former (and most likely your readers) as weak, and failures therefore creating more shame. I believe the point of this post is to educate and encourage.

I believe this is something that not many people especially those on the outside don’t understand and appreciate you creating awareness “We can infer from these studies that women with ADHD may use food as a form of self-medication — one that is more socially acceptable than drug or alcohol use.”

Thank you to whoever reads this. It’s about the food but it’s not about the food.
