The Most Important Hour of the School Year

When we arrived for our son’s annual 504 meeting, the school counselor mentioned that many caregivers never respond to her email invitation. How they could ignore it, I’m not sure because this is undeniably the most important hour we spend at our son’s school all year.

  1. While I’ve seen a lot of horror stories, usually in states that don’t value public education or private schools which aren’t subject to the same regulations, my experiences have generally been positive. Usually teachers are relieved they can talk to me without me being defensive because I know my child, and that the teacher is coming from a place of concern. As a former full time teacher, I empathize. And, believe it or not, some of us have ADHD or other issues ourselves.

Articles that paint the teacher/parent relationship as antagonistic benefit nobody, least of all the child.
