Reach for the Stars
A mother triumphs in her daughter’s ability to exceed the highest expectations.
My daughter, Sara, was diagnosed with ADHD in fourth grade. I often worried that ADHD would stand in her way. But I’m happy to say she proved me wrong time and time again: My proudest moment was when she won an award at middle school graduation, then it was when she made honor roll in high school for the first time, and then, when she was accepted to her “reach” college.
When she began her freshman year, this past September, I saw all those moments meld together. When your child has ADHD or learning disabilities, it’s too easy to lower your expectations. Now I see the real possibilities.
