Introducing New Foods

Be creative and persistent, and you’ll soon open your children to new foods.

Laurie Mozian, a dietitian in Kingston, New York, who has counseled children with AD/HD, says that school is not the place for trying to add foods you’re not sure your child will eat. “Unless your child is being influenced by a peer, he’s not going to eat anything at school that he doesn’t eat at home,” she says.

One way to get your child to eat new foods, she advises, is to consistently present the food at home even if he doesn’t initially eat it. Just put it on the table and offer a small portion. Research has shown that it can take up to 10 exposures before a child will try an unfamiliar food.
