I Want to Like Myself More

“I’m an adult with attention deficit, and I have a low opinion of myself because I’ve made many mistakes in my life. How can I feel better about myself?” Expert advice on reclaiming your self esteem and celebrating your positive traits.

It’s important to remind yourself that you (like most of us) do the best that you can with what you have and what you know. Therefore, you need to think differently about the times in your life before you were diagnosed with ADHD and treated it. You did the best that you could, but you were limited by your lack of knowledge. Once you understood your ADHD, you were in a better position to do more of the right things.

If you are serious about addressing your ADHD, then you need to let the rest go. Learn some lessons from your setbacks, but don’t waste time beating yourself up for what you can’t change. Think about your accomplishments, the things that you have done well. Also remind yourself about qualities that others admire, such as being generous or funny.
