If you don’t mind me asking, what were your blood pressure readings and what numbers would your psychiatrist find acceptable?
So I just got switched to the XR and when I called my pharmacist and asked for the Teva brand, he says he hasn’t seen Teva make an XR in years, if ever according to his recollection. I thought that odd, but when I went on the CVS website to pull up the generic XR information page, there are product images labeled that state the manufacturer “Activis/Teva”. I guess there was a merger of sorts and Activis is now the primary brand? I’m guessing a forumlation change occurred as well because Teva XR seems very highly regarded but virtually every review of Activis XR has been terrible. This stuff is insanely difficult to keep track of. I opted for the Impax brand so I’ll see how it goes. If it doesn’t work out I’m hoping to go back to my Sandoz IR because those have been great so far.
So my psychiatrist just switched me from my single AM “starter dose” 10mg IR to a 15mg XR capsule (which seems like a downgrade to me, but we’ll see). My local CVS tells me that they can’t get Teva branded XR and that my choices were Impax and Activis. I went with the Impax so I’ll let you know how it goes, but it’ll be my only experience with the XR thus far so it won’t be an apples-to-apples comparison. Fingers crossed.January 13, 2020 at 1:55 pm in reply to: Might need a higher dose of Adderall, but prescriber is very cautious #138274
UGH I’m having the same issue with my psychiatrist. My therapist seems much more willing to listen to my concerns and doesn’t feel threatened or second guessed if I discuss what I’ve learned by doing my own novice research on the side. The second I bring up things I’ve read elsewhere to my psych she immediately halts me to tell me that every person is different so I shouldn’t be attempting to look into this on my own at all. I should just show up, answer her questions, and accept whatever she decides to put me on without any question or input. Obviously she cares if a particular prescription was negatively affecting me, but she has no desire to get into the business of helping me tweak my meds to get the most out of them. Thankfully she granted my request to only issue me 14 day scripts so that I can see her sooner to adjust, but it’s just such a frustrating process. Add to that my suspicion that she’s not super-well-read into the particulars of ADHD meds, in my case Adderall, as she simultaneously claimed that XR caps “last for 24 hours” when I’m all but certain they wear off after 12 hours max or earlier and that she considers a switch from (1) 10mg IR to a 15mg XR an increase. Literally, I suppose, but a decrease in the amount that’s active in my system within a given window. Sigh, I’ll see how this goes but switching docs is going to be a real PITA since this practice is only 10 minutes from work and I can go there on a lunch break and not be penalized. Best of luck!
Thanks Penny, I’ve read through those threads and Impax isn’t mentioned that much since it seems to be a new(ish) player.
Bumping this in the hope that somebody has some insight they can share.
