Love the feed back thank you guys so much …Here is the thing about the tickets he literally will not even take it from me and put it in the ticket box that’s how “dumb” he thinks it is and I told the therapist I was putting them in there for him cause he wouldn’t and she said no he has to ..and the hard part is even if he works up to the amount to get a treat ..iPad time or video game time or playing a board game he literally gets so mad and frustrated with what he is doing if he is not “winning” at it BOOM major meltdown yelling and stomping and slamming of the bedroom door …so then we are back at square one …At this point I have stopped it.. kept his things away from him and I notice he just does things by himself if I ask him ..it works maybe 50 percent of the time but I will take it…If I notice him doing well I give him a treat or reward but severely limit the time…We have another meeting next week and I don’t know how I am going to tell the therapist where we are at is basically in the same place we started with the tickets ..I feel like I am in trouble or not a good Mom because I didn’t follow the rules of the therapy after our meetings ..believe me I tried and I will keep trying but when you have to pick your battles with our darlings I am all for the quieter way …

leanz… I like the immediate star idea I might try that
Kelly ..I will stick with it for as long as possible …5-10 years LOL

I am seriously thinking of just paying him in real money …I always call him Mr Crabs like SpongeBob because he literally hoards his money and change ..I think he might see the actually accountability that way …He loves qtrs./dimes/nickels…I will let everyone know

    Hugs to all …Thank you

Oh TY so much everyone for all the replies ..Its scary to know I am not the only one cause my heart goes out to anyone dealing and living with this …we love our children so hard I think that’s the reason why it affects us so much..Ok so he was diagnosed at 6 officially but they saw it happening at 5 for the ADHD at that time no anger issues were involved just impulsive actions..K/1/2 grades were bad then poof 3rd grade came and it was wonderful..not perfect but good for him …at this time he is on Concerta 36mg and .5mg of Prozac every other day.. the teacher is positive and motivating for him …then 4th grade came and BAM nothing has been the same we have noticed the teacher now is very FAST on her teaching style which doesn’t work for him and that has been a big issue …For anyone that asks I am a single mom he sees his dad about once a month due to his work schedule they aren’t close and his Dad feels his problems are either due to me or him just being a boy so I choose to keep him out of it..We have lived in the same place since he was born so he has stability I live with my mom so he has a good home base..I make a good living so we don’t struggle..We have a huge family that loves him like crazy and have just learned to live with the ADHD ..I have tried essential oils…I have read a good amount of books on explosive children and ADHD..On the Prozac after talking to the Dr we might be changing to a lighter form of prozac and maybe giving him a booster of Ritalin around noon so he can get thru school and homework …he takes Melatonin at night to sleep and the Concerta after he eats in the morning..I have had a behavioral specialist since he was 5 that moved into a psychiatrist when he was about 7-8 and we are on our 3rd therapist..we also have a plain old pediatrician…We have an IEP in place at his school which is a award winning public school which he gets great help with after I wrote a nice letter to the director of special education in the district…I am the squeaky wheel ..So that’s just a run down on why I feel so defeated some days …NOT everyday just some days cause I feel like where else do I go from here who else can help me …what do we do next..But you guys have been so great with all your suggestions I am trying alot of them and we will see what happens…..BIG HUGS TO EVERYONE….. and if after reading this you see somewhere else I can work on please feel free to post on it

He is on Concerta and Prozac..we are reviewing the meds right now..I have read the explosive child I have read articles..websites..etc etc..I cant even get him to sit and look at me long enough to discuss things with him..My main concern right now is trying to keep him in school because he basically does nothing except act up in school and refuse the work..Its been a rough 5 months

Good lord thank goodness I found my squad..I am going thru the same thing but I have a 9 year old with ADHD and ODD that just reared its ugly head.. I have been told Im a bad mom..he hates me etc etc have had things thrown at me and doors slammed all day long..the new thing is leaving the house and walking dow the street if I follow him he runs so basically I sit and watch him so cars don’t hit him..I am broken down emotionally and still try to have a smile at my high pressure job I have..we are trying therapy again..I have read the books etc and my child doesn’t even care if he doesn’t get rewarded for something he just does without..Then if I tell him no and try to explain to him why he goes off in a rage and the neighbors think Im abusing him..I am working with his drs on meds and therapy so hopefully we can find an answer..but its nice to know I am not alone

So I had a meeting with the teacher this morning and we went over the class work and homework so I know what is happening..BUT I see there is gonna be a little problem with reminders for him she still feels they are in 4th grade and should be taking more responsibility on but I did remind her he’s not a typical 4th grader with ADHD we are literally looking at around 7 years old..so we agreed on a check list for the day for him to hole punch when its the end of day to remember to put stuff in his backpack also books are available online thru the schools website so no needing to lug all heavy books home..yeah..So I think we made progress but I still will be meeting with the RSP teacher about a talk to text because it seems a lot of frustration is about having to read then write..which to me has Dysgraphia written all over it..The iceberg graphic was fantastic..thank you..

You have no idea how great it feels to know I am not alone…Seriously some days I fear the neighbor is going to call CPS on me because of the way my son yells and slams doors. I appreciate all the feed back I have made contact with his doctor about what has been happening and that we might need to revisit some things ..he has been on 36mg of Concerta and I really don’t want to up it but I been hearing alot about Vyanese and Risperdal ? He already takes a very small amount of Prozac every other day and we started that last year and it was like a whole different child…I mean basically school was great the teachers and RSP teacher could not believe this was the same kid from a year before but its like we are going backwards now I rec’d a email today he walked out of class and refused to do work which he never did last year..if he needed a break he asked for one but it was far and few between. I keep hearing the same thing about the age 9 guess this is just a hard age with ADHD…I mean he literally will tell me to my face no I am not doing my homework and walk away I am trying to wrap my brain around WHY he doesn’t want to do it when I offer to help him …I offer to leave him alone…I cut the homework in half to modify it and still what should take about 45 minutes leads to 2 hours of up and down yelling throwing pencils on his desk etc etc…When they tested him they couldn’t believe how smart he was and how he just excels at things he probably shouldn’t ..I said well of course a test on a computer is nothing for this kid its the classwork and homework … I don’t know where to go on any help for that …We have been to therapist all they say is how sweet he is, he barely says anything to them and that he is very “H” in the ADHD and that’s it …I wish I could find someone that specializes in school and homework… Someday’s I feel like I need medication to get thru the day ..LOL .. Again I appreciate all the feedback its so nice to get different opinions..PS I do have all those books I ordered them when he was small guess I need to read them now ..PSS I checked into a Neuro Assesment it would cost me $3900.00 I asked his Dr to see if there is another way ..

I have been disciplining my child since birth I I was raised in the 70’s I know very well about discipline and respect and I expect the same from my child regardless of his diagnosis BUT I have learned different ways of handling his fluctuating moods..I noticed he usually is only defiant to me or his grandma which are the rule makers and enforce them..with others including his Dad he doesn’t push the limits but his Dad is fun weekend Dad and doesn’t enforce rules..his coaches..teachers..other parents he is respectful and listens..Things have gotten better after reading some posts on here and by me sitting in a quiet room with him and going over things instead of us getting in a yelling match..making sure he understands that no matter what he does with his anger in the end he is still going to have to do what I have asked him to do..so he has gotten upset went in his room slammed the door gathered himself together and comes out or I go in after about 15 min we talk and life goes on instead of me verbally coming at him so quickly after he is angry that leads into never ending argument I feel Im letting him think about it himself and then approaching him

@ Lisa S 777. can you please give me the name of the ODD group.

I have a 10 yo son diagnosed at 5 with ADHD with impulsivity ..that has slowly graduated to ODD which I have noticed is getting worse due to electronics…I took them away for awhile ..and slowly introduced them back in but I have noticed when I try to take them away when’s time is up even though we have discussed time on and when he has to get off it is major explosion…I never have had an episode with him in public or when he is with friends just usually at home with me …He has a difficult time in school even with his IEP..and recently a harder time going to sleep ..His explosions are getting more and more violent and I have to hold him down or his hands and legs just so he doesn’t hurt himself..I could use any direction towards help with the ODD…sleep issues or the explosions …
