I’ve been taking Adderall since last June(?), ever since being DX’ed with ADHD. I started with the IR version, and after a month went to the XR version. It worked okay for awhile, but never lasted long enough. Eventually, I was on 20mg XR in the morning and 10mg IR in the afternoon….but that wasn’t really working for me either.

I talked yo my pdoc, and she suggested trying Vyvanse because it is slightly different from Adderall and lasts longer. She also said that if I feel like I need an IR booster in the afternoon to let her know and she would happily do that for me. And if that still doesn’t work, she’ll want to try me on something from the ritalin family.

Today I took my first dose of Vyvanse, 40mg, and so far, so good! I skipped my morning coffee/tea, because I didn’t know how it would affect me (I still drank it when taking Adderall, but since Vyvanse is slightly different, and I’m working, I didn’t want to take any chances). I don’t feel the same “jolt” as Adderall used to give me, and feel like I could focus on anything right now. A better test will be tomorrow when I have to teach science because I always get distracted during that especially.

I work full time, and am also a full time student, so I need to be productive for a long period of time everyday, at least Monday through Friday…and I’m hoping that Vyvanse will do the trick! I’m curious to see what side effects I get too. Adderall’s only real side effect for me was appetite loss during the day which then often caused me to binge at night. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen with Vyvanse.

How long should I give this dose (40mg) before deciding if I need to change anything? I’m thinking at least 2 weeks, maybe a month? My pdoc is very responsive to me, so if I feel like something needs to change, she’s always willing to do it.

What have your experiences with Vyvanse been? I want the good, the bad, and the ugly.

As long as you’re not having negative side effects, give the medicine a while and see how you do.

That is up to you and your prescriber.
