I’ve found that almost nobody can understand what my (our) condition is like. No matter how I try to describe it, people just can’t relate. Well I was woken up at 3 AM morning by this thought:

Imagine you’re reading a book, or watching a movie, or trying to use a PC to do your job, but the muscles in your eyes don’t work properly and they keep moving your eyes around. Well ADD/ADHD is exactly the same, except it’s mental focus instead of visual. No matter how much you “try harder”, or how motivated you are, or important or necessary the task is, or how guilty people make you feel, you CAN’T focus because your eyes are moving. It has nothing to do with effort nor personality nor anything else.

That’s a cool analogy, and it seems a bit like ADHD creativity on your part..

Personally I’ve kind of given up trying to explain my issues to others as they never seem to understand and worse, sometimes are just judgemental or dismissive. But I guess sometimes people might not seem to understand, but actually they just need to think about it for a while, mull it over.

I have had more success in this regard by talking to people online however, so I guess it’s possible to find “real-life” people who understand.
