Hello. I am tutoring a child after school who constantly gets up from our work area to see what is happening in another area of the home. Tokens and rewards are not working. The child is not interested. There are two younger siblings and Mom and Dad in another room. There really is no quiet room for us to go into to work. The weather is not warm here so going outdoors is not an option yet. I welcome any suggestions.
The ADHD brain craves stimulation. If he’s getting up and looking elsewhere, he’s likely bored and not getting the stimulation he needs to stay focused on what you’re doing. Think about how you can change up the activities you’re doing to make them more stimulating — can you add physical movement? Music? Etc.
