Hello, I was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I started ConcertaXR 18mg, felt nothing so I was then bumped to 27mg once a day.It has now been 2 weeks and I feel very tired throughout the day and by about 1pm very irritable. I pretty much just want to take naps. Not noticing a difference with focus because I am so tired and grumpy. I am just curious how long people typically deal with negative symptoms before making a medication change. I am a 34 year old female.

There are two types of stimulants: amphetamine (Adderall, Vyvanse, Evekeo…) and methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, Quillivant…). Almost everyone does well on one type or the other, but not both. Concerta may not be the best type for you. Talk to your prescribing doctor about what you’re experiencing and when they think it’s time to try something different.

Thank you. That is good to know. I will definitely let my doctor know at my upcoming appointment.

I also am having issues with focus and irritability. I am recently diagnosed at age 56 and taking Vyvanse 50mg. I started at 20 mg and was having afternoon crashes that were horrible. Increasing the dose to 30mg didn’t help and I wanted to try something different, but my psychiatrist wanted to increase the dose one more time. On 50mg I’m more useless than I was before beginning meds. I don’t know what I’m doing half the time, even when I’m doing something familiar, like making coffee. I’ve never had so many issues trying to make a pot of coffee. I either forget the water, the coffee, or the pot. forgetting the pot is new since beginning the vyvanse. and forgetting water or adding the coffee is something that used to be an occasional thing and now it’s almost daily. I’ve cleaned coffee up off the floor 5 times in the last 3 weeks.

And now I’m afraid to try something else because I don’t think I can manage much longer. I am nearly to the point of quitting my job and locking myself in my room so I can’t screw anything else up.
