My 13 year old son doesn’t want to take his medicine. He had to stop taking stimulants because of hallucinations. Now he is taking Strattera 21mg which does nothing for his ADHD symptoms. Now that he is homeschooled we struggle daily to get him to complete his assignments. He yells, runs around and is easily distracted. I don’t know what to do.

Sounds like it’s time to try a different medication — it seems Strattera isn’t cutting it. There are other non-stimulants for ADHD, as well as some other types of medications sometimes prescribed off-label when ADHD medications aren’t a good fit.

Thanks for the information. My son hasn’t found the right medication for about a year now, trying different medications. I will mention my concerns and possible ideas with his doctor today.

It seems like my son can’t tolerate stimulants. The stimulants seemed to work better for his ADHD symptoms. It has me thinking maybe he has something else going on and need treatment. I am thinking he should get evaluated again.
