What is it about alcohol that helps your brain? Does it calm it? Does it relax you? Does it make you feel energized?
Think back to a time before you began drinking. Were there times when you remember your brain working better than others? Are you a night person or a morning person? Do you do better when you’re alone or around others? Do you find that you sleep well? Do you have trouble with distraction?
It’s also possible the medication you’re on isn’t at the right dose or effectiveness yet. Strattera takes time to work and become effective, so you have to be consistent and patient. It’s not as fast as some of the other medications.
Ultimately, though, you have to figure out what you’re medicating with the alcohol. What does it “do” for you? If you can start to pinpoint that in more detail, then you can begin to find alternatives that might do the same thing. Including things like music, exercise, sleep, brain strategies, mindfulness, friendship support, therapy, etc.
