Curbing Online Distractions at Work
“Whenever I go online at work, I just start clicking links and getting distracted. How can I curb this tendency?”
Next time you use the Internet, clearly define your objective before you even click on your Web browser.
Do you need to learn as much as possible about your subject, or find the answer to one specific question? Write the question or detail you’re looking for on a sticky note, and post it next to your computer screen.
ADDers are naturally curious, so we tend to love the research process. But there is endless information on the Web. Keeping your objective in view, literally, should keep you on track. As a backup, place a limit on the time you’ll spend online, and set a timer to remind yourself.
