Many colleges offer summer programs geared toward preparing special-needs high school students for college.

Curry College, a four-year liberal arts school in Milton, Massachusetts, offers an intensive one-week residential program for high school juniors and seniors. Students in the program live in a dorm, attend classes from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and participate in structured activities in the evenings.

“We are interested in two things,” says Lisa Ijiri, director of the program. “One, facilitating an understanding of their learning disability or ADHD and learning strategies to cope with it, and, two, making the transition to college.”

Other colleges with summer college-prep programs include Landmark College in Putney, Vermont; Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio; and Colorado Mountain College, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
