Advice for ADHD School Success
My six-year-old daughter comes home every day crying about her “slow brain,” but her teacher brushes off my concerns. How can I convince the teacher to take my child’s needs seriously?
Children with ADD frequently have learning difficulties.
Seek an educational assessment. If there is a gap between your daughter’s intellect and her ability, she may benefit from extra tutoring or
special-education services. If your daughter takes
ADHD medication, the school-day dose may require adjustment. Speak with her doctor about this. -Carol Brady, Ph.D., child psychologist, Houston
