ADHD in College

A Problem Professor

How to handle an unaccommodating professor — tactfully and patiently.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at age 32 and am looking forward to graduating from college this year.

All but one of my professors have been great with accommodations. After explaining to this professor that I have ADHD, and am getting treatment and taking medication, he lectured me about how “young people” need to build character by overcoming distractions, instead of asking for “special help.”

The professor’s course was required for my major, so I stuck it out. But I asked the Office of Student Disabilities to flag the professor in their files.
