Finding a Special Project for a Grandson

"I will have my 11-year-old grandson with me for the summer. Is there a special project we can work on together?"

by Sandy Maynard

How wonderful! Eleven is just such a magical age. The most important consideration in choosing a project is that it be something that interests your grandson, so he will be less likely to get bored with it. What are his interests? Is he artistic? Is he mechanically inclined? Does he like to be outside or inside? Is he active? Is sitting still a challenge for him? Does he need a quite atmosphere to stay focused? What is he most curious about? Does Science spark his interest? Will going to the library to research and collect information for the project be possible? These are all questions that you can ask him before beginning your summer adventure... and at age 11, I am sure it will be an adventure!

Children that age are naturally still full of curiosity and have endless reserves of energy for the things that interest them. The key is to discover what will spark that interest and keep it alive. A good chat with him about his likes and dislikes is the place to start. Take care and have a summer to remember!
