The School's Responsibility

"The school nurse was out today, so my daughter didn't get her AD/HD medication. How can I keep this from happening again?"

by Larry Silver, M.D.

If your physician orders that a dose of medication be given at a certain time, the school must provide coverage when the regular nurse is out. What would have happened if your daughter needed the medication to treat seizures or diabetes? Let the principal know that this situation must be remedied at once.
