The Consequences of Untreated ADHD

"I have a son who was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 8. We didn't treat it, and now he's self-medicating and in trouble."

by Larry Silver, M.D.

Sadly, your son illustrates what may happen when someone has aneurologically based disorder (ADHD) and is not treated.

I do not know why he did not go on medication. But, in retrospect, it might have made a big difference in his ability to be successful in school and with life. Perhaps he might not have gone down the road he took. I can not give you specific names for your area. Perhaps you could contact CHADD or your local Mental Health Association for referrals.
