Quick Tip for Using the Daytrana Patch

Q:

"My son's doctor prescribed the stimulant patch, Daytrana. I find it difficult to peel off the protective covering, and I’ve ruined several patches. Any suggestions?"

A:

One of my patients discovered this trick: Store patches in the refrigerator. They seem to peel more easily when they’re cold. So far, all the patients I’ve shared this tip with say that it works well.

    Difficulties with the Daytrana Patch
My son was on the 30 mg patch and we had no problems removing the plastic covering. We switched to 20 mg in January 2007, and noticed a significant difference with the plastic covering. I called Shire about this, and they provided me with a gift card that I could use to cover my co-pays and I was able to get 40 free patches. They mentioned that I was not the only customer who was experiencing problems, and they were working on the adhesive. Since June 2007, the adhesive has improved. I have not experienced any more problems with the 20mg patches.
