'Adrenal Burnout' from Concerta?

Q:

"Is it true that long-term use of Concerta can cause 'burnout' of the adrenal glands?"

Dr. Larry Silver specializes in treating children with attention deficit disorder (ADHD).
A:

Concerta is a long-acting form of methylphenidate, the same drug that is also in Ritalin. Ritalin has been used since the mid-1950s, and, to date, there is no evidence that long-term use causes "adrenal burnout."

Larry Silver, M.D., is the author of Dr. Larry Silver's Advice to Parents on AD/HD and The Misunderstood Child: Understanding and Coping with Your Child's Learning Disabilities. He is also a clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

    Anxiety and zoloft
Our 16 year old son take concerta ritalin and also zoloft. The doctor has increased his zoloft gradually over the past month from 25 mg in the morning to 25mg in the morning and 25mg in the evening as he was getting more paranoid, obsessive and at home verbally agressive. The school have commented that he is "lacking control" at times ie uncontrollable giggling and shot a rubber band across the room into another child's face. Could this be the extra zoloft? Thanks Judy
