Too Much Medication? Or the Wrong Kind?Filed Under: ADD Meds: Dosing, Side Effects of ADHD Meds, ADHD Causes
Q:
"I have both ADHD and OCD. Now, my medication no longer works. I've had to escalate the dose, but feel like a zombie instead. What can I do?"
A:
There are numerous different medications to use for ADHD—Ritalin, Dexedrine, and Adderall are but three of them. You should not have to suffer nor should you have to use more medication than your doctor suggests.I recommend that you find someone who is an expert in treating ADHD and try a different medication approach. If you want to read more about these other medications, look over the chapter on medication in my book, "Dr. Larry Silver's Advise to Parents on ADHD."
Larry Silver, M.D., is the author of Dr. Larry Silver's Advice to Parents on AD/HD and The Misunderstood Child: Understanding and Coping with Your Child's Learning Disabilities. He is also a clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
