Pulling my hair out

Hyper and defiant child since 3yrs old but I thought it wasn’t that bad (denial) Started kindergarten, 1 month in the teacher suggested I have him tested for ADHD • He was suspended twice and written up for various aggression issues • His aggression at home became worse with him hitting, throwing things, yelling... • Went to Pedi and she wanted to wait until he was at least 6 and had a chance w/a different teacher in first grade before we did anything. • Tried therapy but they told me that I was doing everything they would suggest behavior charts, reward good, time outs for bad etc.. Started 1st grade • First month and his new teacher pulled me aside and told me he absolutely should be tested for ADHD • Teacher and I did Connor scale and Pedi DXd him with ADHD and ODD • He was then started on Vyvanse • Vyvanse worked for about 2 months and then wore off • Upped the Vyvanse but after a month he developed tics. • Aggression at home became heightened • Changed to strattera seemed to be helpful on focus but not on impulsivity Started 2nd grade • Suspended twice • Strattera not working but stayed on it • Added 1mg of Intuniv but it made him very tired, trouble getting up in morning and couldn’t stay up to do his reading at night. • Now he has been on intuniv for 1month and he started facial tics again last week

The problems I have are with the school not wanting to do a 504 and insisting all he needs is a behavior plan, the behavior plan seems to be a lot more work for an already over burdened teacher. They won’t give him a 1:1 to help get the behavior plan started but EVERY week I get an email or letter about my son’s horrible behavior, disrespect etc. My resources have become limited because I lost my job in 2010 and returned to school. The NJ Family care insurance benefits are pretty much nonexistent for child psychiatry so meds are being managed by the pedi. Off the meds, my son is pretty happy but is so hyper and has no impulse control at all. SO he is a joker and such but doesn’t know to stop joking around when it’s time to do homework or listen to a movie. He is currently taking 25mg or Strattera and just started 2mg of Intuniv last night.
