Figuring out if my child needs to increase his concerta dosage

Recently my dr. switched my son from 27 mg back to 18 mg because he wasn't sleeping at night. He is still doing well at school but I'm noticing some differences at home. My question is how do I tell if he's just being a normal child or if he is not medicated enough and needs to be switched back up. Like I said he is doing well in school still teachers aren't complaining at all and say he's actually doing wonderfully; however, at home there is more whining again, etc. But like I said I don't know if I got so used to him being medicated and not whiney at all etc. Thinking maybe he was too medicated before, too calm and now I'm so confused as to whether he is being a normal child or if he needs his meds put back up. I just don't know what ot think or do.
