good student but afraid to take advanced classes

My 14 y.o freshman in HS son is a good student, with lot of nagging from me. However, he is motivated to get good grades. His 8th grade teachers recommended he take all honors classes, he ended up just taking honors algebra. He does have A's in most of his classes, but still has issues with missed homework assignments which are 25 % of his grade for his classes. We would like him to take more honors classes for his sophomore year, but he is resistant and wants to stay in College prep level since the pace and work load is more in honors level. He is afraid of missing more assignments. Do we push him or let him be comfortable where he is at? We know colleges will look more favorable at honors level classes vs just CP.
