Spoon Theory (or How to Get People to Understand Why You're So Tired)

Recently, someone shared with me the idea of Spoon Theory.

This wonderful essay written by Christine Miserandino talks about how she explained what it's like to have lupus to a friend. I think, though, it also says a lot about living with ADHD, and parenting a child with ADHD. Add to that the complication for kids of not even getting to choose where to "spend their spoons" and it's a wonder they're as well behaved as they are!

I've thought a lot about these words since I read them the first time, especially as they relate to my son. It's given me pause before I ask (tell) him to do things that aren't really necessary, kept my temper in check on more than one occasion, and given me the strength to be the Mama Lion in the face of those who criticize him for being himself. I wanted to share it, as I thought it might offer at least a smile to someone else as well.
