i'm looking for some guidence/advise/help

I have had an appointment with a neurologist who wants to do an MRI, EEG, Memory test and something else. I found it very overwhelming when scheduling all of these! An i have an important exam for work coming very soon. So i have postponed these tests untill after the exam, as i can only try to concentrate on the one thing at the moment and it was all stressing me out (i have failed 3 times previously). Do i need all of these tests to see if it is adult add/adhd? i have all the classic symptoms and now that i know more about it i can attribute many issues in childhood and school to them. how do convince (for lack of a better term) my neurolgist that i think this is my problem and not a memory loss issue? which is the impression i got from him that he is thinking that..... thanks.

don't do it

I would cancel all those tests. Waste of time and money. If you looked into add symptoms and you have those then any competent psychologist /therapist can help. Why go to a nuerologist? do you have other phsyical issues or something. Going to a neurologist is like asking a rocket scientist the proper depth and soil to plant a flower. They have all the wrong tools. Get all the info you can on adhd and put yourself in the lead. Get competent and appropriate help when needed (such as a psychiatrist or whatever). I read Hallowells delivered from distraction book and started taking fish oil. Fish oil and grape seed extract work FAR better for me than adderal. Also it has no side effects and extra health benefits. Your situation may be totally different and a different "intervention" may work for you. The point is to learn as much about ADHD as you can and identify all the possible interventions. Maybe you will choose to do tests after you know what all your options are, but no way would I start out doing these tests. Learn what works for others, try as many of those as you can to find if any of those work for you. I would listen to/read hallowells delivered form distraction book to start because he goes through a huge range of interventions including mind exercises, nutrition, supplements, exercise, medication, social contact/support.

The biggest risk of going to a nuerologist is you are handing over the keys to your recovery to him. You need to be the most aware and knowledgeable and if you choose to add tests from your posisition of knowledge then that's great.

Remember that our medical system is a GIGANTIC business and they will often push tests for that reason. The other reason is that might be all they know, or all the tools in their toolbox. You want to have your own toolbox. Filled with all the possible interventions. You hold the keys not a doctor. The right doctor can be of great help but many will steer you the wrong way.
