My child is really testing me and I'm about to lose it!!! Help!!!!!
My son is 9, ADHD and is medicated and has been since he was 5. His attitude and behavior the past 6 months has been absolutely attrocious! (did I spell that right? lol). At first I thought it maybe the ADHD, but close family and friends who have spent time with him have informed me that nope, he only does this around me. I have house rules and am quite strict with him. He is on time out more than he isn't. He's always complaining, arguing back and being saucy. His step father is ready to lose it too and most of the time stays clear of my son due to his attitude. I hate to say it, but if he wasn't my child, I would stay clear of him as well :o( I have an appointment with his pediatrician in a couple of weeks and I have made an appointment for him to see a therapist - just waiting on a date. In the mean time, is there anything I can do (short of committing myself)?
Run down of behavior: complains of food cooked ("I don't like this, I don't want this...."), complains of being bored when he's got lots to do, ALWAYS has to have the last word, when shopping "Can I , Can I , Can I " (after being reminded JUST before we go shopping that he isn't to ask for a thing). When I get after him for doing something that I only asked him moments ago NOT to do (and I know he knows as he repeats it back) I get "k, k, k, ,k k, k, k,", or "sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry" (and no he's not stuttering).
He knows he is doing all of this and when I ask him why I get "I don't know", or I know I'm doing it, but I can't stop. It's VERY frustrating!!!! His step dad does things with my oldest (who is ADHD, but is no where near what my youngest is), but won't do anything with my youngest because neither of us can handle him without getting angry and frustrated. Please help!!!!!
