Insurance questions
My two boys, ages 13 and 17 have had the same pediatrician for the past ten years. He diagnosed their ADHD and has managed their medications the entire time. Now, due to job changes with both my husband and I, our insurance option is only Kaiser. I checked with Kaiser and they don't have Vyvanse and Strattera on their formulary. Both boys are doing well, and I hate to switch their medications, especially at the end of critical school years. (8th and 12th) I'm also worried as we've tried every stimulant with the 13 year old and Strattera seems to be the most effective choice right now.
Does anybody have experience with Kaiser and ADHD? The reason we left Kaiser years ago, was that the pediatrician told me "he didn't believe in ADD." I'm a little put off that you have to go through the mental health clinic (at a different location from the primary doc) for any ADD related issues. The benefits however, are that meds are a lot cheaper than traditional insurance plans with copays, deductibles and percentages.
Thoughts please!
