Assistive Technology

I'm wondering about what I can say to the teachers at my son's school about him needing Assistive Technology. He has been diagnosed with ADHD (combined type), Anxiety, and a co-existing Developmental Coordination Disorder that greatly affects his handwriting, coloring, gluing, DISORGANIZATION, etc....He has an IEP (finally got one this year!) for accommodations for his note taking, etc....But what we are finding is that, as a 7th grader, he is required to do a lot more writing - they make SOME accommodations, but aren't really doing what I'd like for them to do. Part of the problem is that this is the first year he's had an IEP so he isn't used to asking for or getting help. I have asked several times about sending him with a tablet or netbook to help with the note taking, etc... (he's pretty good on computers), but they say that they feel that he would be far too distracted by the computer and that he'd pay less attention than he does now. I don't know if that is true or not.... My question is this: How can I require (make!) them let him try it???? Thanks.
