Change from Focalin XR?

My 7 y/o ds has ADHD with the emphasis on the H. He is on 15 mg of Focalin XR and it works WONDERS... from about 7 am til about noon. Then it seems to run out. The doc said some kids metabolize drugs faster than others. This should last 8-10 hours and isn't. Doc gave me a 5 mg dose to give him at lunch-time. It has made NO difference. His mornings at school are focused, he has control over his impulses... but not in the pm. I made another appt with the doc. Before I go... I wonder what my options will be? Should I try a different XR drug? I hate to since this works so well (for those 5 hours anyway). I hate medicating him more, but he is extremely implusive and he is constantly in trouble on the bus in the afternoon and in class - even at daycare for the hour he's there before I pick him up. Any advice? Thanks

Same thing here!

MY son also takes Focalin xr 10mg in the morning, like you said, it works great for him and then he is having meltdowns at school around 1-2p around 6 hrs later. I told his p-doc about it and she said sometimes that happens. I was like, well i think he needs meds after school time, for homework or anything he has to work hard at. We decided that A- if we increase the dose it wont make it last longer, and then B- i let his school give it to him an hour later, so he lasts at least through the school day. All good, but still doesnt help after school. I asked about giving a dose after school if needed, she said ok, but we only have so many pills. UGH He is also on strattera at bedtime. I think that helps mostly with his mood, and focus a bit. Ive been round and round and its so hard to get it right. we will see her soon , I was thinking hmm maybe focalin xr isnt the drug for him, but she wanted to keep on it another month. Let me know if you find an answer !! HUGS
