New Here with questions
My son has been diagnosed with ADHD when he was in 1st grade. He is now in 3rd grade. I am trying desperately to get him the help that he needs.
His school was very lax in helping him and so, now that I've learned a thing or twelve, I've requested in writing to the Special Education Director of my district that his school perform an evaluation and eventually an IEP.
I know that this should have been done when he was in the 1st grade after he was diagnosed, however it was not.
He is constantly getting suspended from school due to behaviors that are directly associated with his ADHD. Non violent behaviors. I'm trying to get the school to work with me in ways of handling this behavior that considers his ADHD as opposed to suspending him each time and taking him out of the classroom and away from the opportunity to learn.
My question is this? My son is presently making good grades. I've noticed that he is struggling to perform tasks in class and at home. I'm concerned that as his work gets more difficult he is going to have serious problems keeping up and maintaining good grades. I've already seen evidence of this as I've mentioned before.
I'm afraid that he will be turned down for an evaluation as a result of his good grades.
Should this happen, can anyone tell me what recourse I have? What should be my next step?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Amy
